Slogans

One day while riding in the car, Cayle hears a commercial on the radio and repeats it. It was Subway, Eat Fresh. He's now taken quite the interest in memorizing restaurant slogans!

Grandpa Hammers is turning 60!

And the kids absolutely adore him! We are going to spend the weekend with them and all cousins. It's going to be a good time!!!

302

The number of pictures Cayle took with my phone camera in about 15 minutes. I'm going to estimate that approximately 99.2% of them are out of focus, or a picture of nothing, or are completely unflattering. Here's a sample before I delete them off my phone (since I've just been warned I am now out of memory!).

Power Slide

He learned how to Power Slide on his big wheel. He was so proud (as was I)!

34 weeks

Today was my 34 week appointment. I still haven't had much luck gaining weight and had to have another ultrasound to check on the baby's growth. Baby is doing great and currently weighs in at 4 lbs 12 ounces. Only 5 more weeks!

Ouch

We were doing pretty well on getting our big puzzle put together. I even purchased a frame for it since I thought the end was in sight. (Last known pic)

And then, Shay visited :)

And so, we will attempt the puzzle again :)

Bee Update

I'm Ready! Ready for bees! The necessary work is done to be ready for the bees to arrive. Because I bought used equipment for much cheaper than buying new equipment, there was much cleaning and painting to be done. The good part of that is that I have been able to better see how things work and are put together. I am not completely done, I believe there will always be something to do, but all I have left is painting extra hive bodies and putting wax foundation in frames.
 The "Bee Yard"
I had to purchase some more Hive equipment, so made a 45 minute trip south to a little Amish guy's workshop.

It was an a amazing place. He was producing a huge amount of bee equipment for a commercial company, has a greenhouse on site for hot peppers. He grows 2 acres of hot peppers for Schnucks and Dierberg's! He had 500 sheep out on free range, and make maple syrup in the Spring on the side. I'm always amazed at how hard working the Amish are. Plus it's awesome that they all ride bikes everywhere as transportation!
Unpainted new Deep boxes on the left and Medium honey supers on the right. Old used, newly painted deeps on the left.
2 jar feeders. The bees get fed 1:1 sugar syrup in the spring and fall to keep the colony strong. These hold mason jars with holes in the lids tipped upside down.
Above and below are medium honey supers and frames. 4 honey supers with 10 frames each. This is where the bees store excess honey (that I can harvest). These frames are plastic, covered with a light brushing of honey, and have the hexagon comb pattern started on them to help the bees know where to draw comb.
I needed these wedges to put in some wax foundation for my other hive. The guy just cut them for me and threw them in free of charge! Super nice considering how busy he was.
Hopefully someday soon, these will be full of honey! All full, this will hold 10-15 gallons of honey... Yummy!
