Finally......and........WASTED.......

Finally..... a blog..... and the wasted part is describing my legs. On October 10th I am doing the 24 hours of Moab bicycle race...... SOLO..... I think I may be crazy, but I also think that barring equipment failure, it is mostly a mental thing. I did a 9.5 hour 145 mile ride today by myself for training. I climbed 4 mountain passes (Battle Mountain, Tennessee, Fremont, and Vail) totaling 9,000 feet of climbing. I burned close to 5,000 calories. I figured out a few things quickly as far as what will and what won't work in a 24 hour period. I won't be able to eat all sugar filled candies and drink energy drinks as I did today. After about 4 hours, the candy was no longer tasting good, and had to be forced down just because I needed the calories. So I guess I will need to eat real foods, and plan on doing that by eating pasta, chicken broth, and burgers, along with Bacon and eggs in the morning hopefully.... I also figured out that after about 6 hours of riding, I was damn tired!!! I did get my second wind though shortly after that and felt fine. I also figured out that at some point while riding by myself in Moab I am going to wonder why in the heck I am trying to ride for 24 hours on my Mt. Bike..........prolly during the night laps....... On the other side of it, I could have kept riding (just didn't have enough time since I had already ridden from 7:30am-4:30pm), which is encouraging, because the total amount of time that I rode was not even half of what I will be doing in Moab........ On the flip side, it was amazing training that will take my legs probably close to a week to recover from, and the views of the leaves turning colors were just absolutely amazing at around 10,000 ft. in elevation. The picture above is from the top of Battle Mountain pass near Minturn, Colorado (pronounced Minurn by the locals...) I will keep you updated on the training, and the days leading up to the race.
