Breakthrough Day at the Pool

Above is a picture of Cayle and his buddy Macklin. He meets "Mack" at the pool for swim time on Monday mornings. Macklin is way more adventurous and eager to try to new things than Cayle is. Cayle likes to "think" through things and try them only once he feels comfortable. The only time I haven't seen this to be true is when he is riding his bike, then he just goes.

He has been doing really great in the pool for several weeks now! He has recently started squat walking around the kiddie area of the pool trying to keep his shoulders on down under the water. Today he was going down so far so that half of his face was in the water. Then he would "act" surprised. Mack likes to go out into the lazy river and the deeper area with his mom. Cayle has never been interested. He doesn't like when he can't feel the bottom of the pool, so I was kinda surprised today that when I suggested we go to the deeper area or the adult area, he went along with it. He went down the steps to the deeper area on his own, only reaching out for help when the water got up to his chin. Then he was ok with me holding him in the deeper water. After that I was putting him (standing) on the ledge, and he was jumping into my arms and then "falling" into the water. He did this 6 or 7 times, and then was ready to go back to the kiddie area and his comfort zone. I was super excited at his newfound confidence and willingness to try something new. It's a step we have been working on for a while now. Grandma will be here next week and mommy will be off work, so the whole family can go swimming!

Ran

Did it... did some kind of physical activity again... the first time in about 3 weeks. Oddly enough though, despite all the eating and laying around I have been doing, haven't gained but a couple of pounds. Ran to the rec center this morning with Cayle, swam/played in the kiddie pool for 45 minutes, ran to the grocery store for donuts, then ran home. Cold out, but felt pretty good. Cayle had so much donut glaze on his face when we got home. I think he was actually falling asleep while he was eating his donut. He was a mess! Sometimes I think he likes to go to the rec center just because then he knows he will get a donut after. He likes the donut more than the swimming!

Busy Week

Parent teacher conference weeks are always crazy for us! Lots of time at school, less time with Cayle, and less time to take care of things at home. Luckily I only have to be at half of them! Took Cayle to the pool today. He loves being in the water, and is getting more comfortable with going all the way under. Lifeguard told me today that the next step is letting go of him in the area where he can't touch.... ok, we'll get on that next week. Today we worked on jumping off the side of the pool wall.

Swimming and Library

Monday we went swimming at the rec center, and Cayle's buddy Macklin and Melinda joined us. Cayle loved playing with Mack and sliding on the water slide. Cayle usually lasts about 25 minutes, but yesterday he wanted to play extra. I pretty much had to drag him out of the pool at nine when they close. It was nice for him to have someone to play with.

Today we went to the library again. I got several compliments on how cute and well behaved Cayle is. He loves reading time at the library. Next week he is going to take Grandma along with him, then to play at the park afterward.

First day of Students and new schedule

School has begun. I am most excited to get into a new routine. On mondays we go swimming in the morning at the rec center. Cayle LOVED it! They have a little kiddie water slide that he was sliding down. We slid down it together a couple of times, it was a lot of fun. He went completely under 4-5 different times, and didn't really act like it was that big of deal. He is so much fun to hang out with! It was hard dropping him off at the sitters today, especially when he started screaming and trying to get out the door with me when I left... I look forward to our mornings together, packed with all the exciting activities, or just hanging out together. Tomorrow is library.

School went really well too. I had 2 health classes and media productions today. I think they are going to be a lot of fun! Love helping all the 6th graders on their first day at a new school, and seeing how much the 7th and 8th graders have grown/matured over the summer. It's nice to be back at school.
