Ran

Did it... did some kind of physical activity again... the first time in about 3 weeks. Oddly enough though, despite all the eating and laying around I have been doing, haven't gained but a couple of pounds. Ran to the rec center this morning with Cayle, swam/played in the kiddie pool for 45 minutes, ran to the grocery store for donuts, then ran home. Cold out, but felt pretty good. Cayle had so much donut glaze on his face when we got home. I think he was actually falling asleep while he was eating his donut. He was a mess! Sometimes I think he likes to go to the rec center just because then he knows he will get a donut after. He likes the donut more than the swimming!

Devils Dash 5K

Ran the Devils Dash 5K yesterday morning at the Gypsum Creek Golf course. It was my first ever x-country race, almost completely on the golf course, and my first running race in a LONG time. I have been running now for about 2 weeks, so wasn't really sure what to expect, but was hoping to break 21 minutes. I ran a 20:45 for 4th place out of about 70 (across all age categories.) I beat Ty (a 7th grader in my class) by 5 seconds, he was hauling as well. He is about 5' tall, so I have quite a large stride advantage on him.... A friend was on the course taking pics, so he sent me a few. I got several compliments on my socks. I have to admit, it was a lot of fun, and very well organized! Not that I am going to do many more running races, but would like to break 6 minutes for the mile when the middle school kids run it in a week. Haven't done that since high school, and my fastest ever I think was like 5:45 ish...

Switching Disciplines

I am a cyclist. I ride bicycles. I enjoy riding bicycles, and until last fall, I detested running. I picked it up again last fall as a way to get some time off the bike, work different muscles, and burn some calories. Since the biking season ended about a month ago, I started running again.

Tomorrow I will enter my first running race since the 2007 Jingle Bell Run in Springfield, IL. That was my first race since high school, and I just entered for fun w/out running or really even being in very good shape. My results from that run here. I ran a 23:25. I hope to be closer to 21:00 tomorrow. It is a x-country course on the fairways of the Gypsum Creek Golf Course. It should be fun! Starts at 9am, it's going to be chilly!
